If you’ve just gotten off the plane after a long flight, the last thing you want to do is wait for your checked luggage. Even taking into account jet lag, you might have a hard time finding your bag among the endless conveyor belts of identical black suitcases. Luckily, Apple AirTags can make your life easier.
You probably know how useful AirTag trackers are for finding a lost wallet or keychain. But have you ever considered putting one in your luggage before heading to the airport? How about putting one in your laptop bag?
Generally speaking, you need to be within Bluetooth range to find an AirTag, but if it’s farther away, you can use Apple’s Find My service to locate it as long as it’s still within range of another Apple device. (here it is How the Find My Network Works.) To do this, simply put your AirTag into lost mode and you will be notified once it is within range of the Find My network.
We’ve created a list of some unexpected places to put AirTags to help prevent you from constantly looking back. For more details click here How to tell if AirTag is tracking your location on Android.
In your tent when you go hiking
If you’re camping somewhere you’ve never been, it might be useful to have an AirTag inside your tent so you can easily find your campsite. For example, if you decide to hike a few miles one day, you can use Find My to find the AirTag’s last location (your tent) and get directions back to your campsite. Remember, it needs to be within range of someone else’s device, so don’t rely on it in the wild. (This is why Apple recommends not using AirTags on pets.)
in your jacket pocket
How many times have you left your coat at a restaurant, bar, or at a friend’s house? It’s easy to forget to pack a jacket when you head out, especially when the weather is warmer than you expected or your hands are full of leftovers and to-go cups.
If you know you’ll be hanging your jacket on a coat rack or the back of a chair when you arrive, put the AirTag in your pocket so you know where you’ve put it. This can help prevent another favorite jacket from getting lost and save money in your wallet to replace it.
in your suitcase
Airport navigation can be tricky, and it can be especially difficult when you’re trying to find the right baggage claim area. Sometimes you have to wait 30 minutes for the bags to finally roll onto the conveyor belt, and sometimes they get lost. To take the stress out of finding your suitcase, you can place an AirTag tracker inside so you can track its whereabouts.
This can help you find out if your luggage was left on the plane, if it’s on the conveyor belt but you haven’t discovered it yet, or if someone grabbed your luggage by mistake. Once you find out where your luggage is, you can rectify the situation and continue to where you want to go.
In your laptop bag
It’s easy to leave your laptop bag in the coffee shop while you’re getting coffee for everyone in the office. It’s hard to remember to grab your bag from the stall you’re sitting in when your hands are busy and you’re distracted wondering how to open the car door.
That’s why it’s best to put your AirTags in one of your pockets. Not only can you find your expensive laptop, but you can also save any confidential company or personal information in your bag.
A secluded spot on the bike
If this hasn’t happened to you, you probably know someone who has. You get home from your bike ride, go in to get water and something to eat, and completely forget about the bike you left outside. Or maybe you went to the shop, didn’t lock your bike, and when you came back it was gone.
If you place the AirTag in a hidden location on your bike, you can easily find it. However, we don’t recommend tracking the bike yourself. It is best to inform the police and ask them to retrieve your bike to avoid a dangerous situation.
This method also works if your car has been stolen or towed, or if you don’t remember where you parked it. However, if you have an iPhone and it’s connected to your car via Bluetooth, your phone can find where you last placed it.
