A man allegedly armed with two knives was shot and wounded by at least one Los Angeles County deputy in Lakewood on Saturday morning.
At 9:46 a.m., police received a report of a man brandishing a knife at another person at South Street and Woodruff Avenue near Lakewood Mall. When they attempted to detain the suspect, he “was uncooperative and refused to comply with their commands,” according to the Sheriff’s Department statement.
The man continued to advance and asked deputies to shoot him; they used a Taser but were unable to stop him, the statement said.
At least one officer then shot the suspect, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital, where he was reported to remain in critical but stable condition late Saturday. Two knives were found at the scene, according to a statement from the department.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the bureau at (323) 890-5500.
