A Texas man was sentenced to 40 years in prison under a plea deal after pleading guilty to murdering his new wife.
Jared James Dicus cut off the head of 21-year-old Anggy Diaz and left it in a shower in 2023, Judge Gary Chaney heard Wednesday ) pronounce sentence.
Dix, 23, pleaded guilty to murder and his earliest parole date is not until 2043.
Potential mental health issues regarding Dicus’s competency to stand trial were raised during the pretrial phase of the case, but after a court-ordered examination, he was deemed competent to stand trial.

As part of the plea agreement, Dicus waived his right to appeal the verdict, sentence and any potential defenses, including an insanity defense. He also waived any post-conviction habeas corpus.
“Domestic violence will not be tolerated in Waller County. Heinous crimes like this will not go unanswered,” Waller County District Attorney Sean Whitmore said in a statement. “We will Justice for victims of domestic violence and a message to perpetrators: We are here to fight for victims.”
Diaz, who was originally from Nicaragua and worked as a counter assistant at a local business, was initially cared for by an aunt when he arrived in the United States, his family said last year.

Dicus was charged with Diaz’s murder in January 2023 and married Diaz three months ago. Waller County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Diaz on the floor of the couple’s bedroom in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to her back and what appeared to be her head in the shower.
Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said evidence pointed to a kitchen knife as the murder weapon and “all parts have been recovered.”
After Diaz’s death last year, Dicus admitted to investigators that he murdered his wife.
