Brown Lands Skateboard Bronze Medal
British skateboarding star Skye Brown won bronze despite dislocating her shoulder before the Olympics.
Brown completed a stunning comeback after dislocating her shoulder competing at Tokyo’s Concorde Women’s Skatepark, finishing with a time of 92.31 to tie her bronze medal in the third of three rounds.
The 16-year-old appeared to have aggravated her injury during qualifying, finishing fourth with 84.75 points but suffering a serious fall in the final of three rounds.
A tearful Brown vowed to “get over” the pain and her performance in her final race proved enough to return to the Olympic podium.
A strong performance from Australia’s Arisa Trew moved the Aussies into first place, with Brown in second until the last skater, Cocona Hiraki, eked out the lead. Also beat her at the Tokyo Olympics at 12 years old.
Still, Brown has made a remarkable comeback from a serious knee injury last year and a fractured skull in an accident more than a year before the Tokyo Olympics.
Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix missed out on a second Olympic medal at Paris 2024 after finishing sixth in the women’s 10m platform final.
The 19-year-old got off to a strong start by finishing third in Monday’s semi-finals to qualify for the final, and she lingered just outside the podium in fourth place.
However, her performance in the second round was poor and she slipped down the standings with a score of 62.40, ranking seventh after the fourth round.
She finished the event with an impressive 81.60 on her final jump, but could only finish sixth.
Despite a frustrating performance in the individual event, Spondolini-Cilliax already won a medal last week in the 10m synchronized event with partner Lois Toulson.
China’s Quan Hongchan set the standard in the first round to take gold in Tuesday’s individual event, diving flawlessly to finish with 90 points and win the title with an impressive 425.60 points.
Her teammate Chen Ok-hee won the silver medal and North Korea’s Kim Mi-rae won the bronze medal.

Tokyo silver medalist Laura Muir easily advanced to the women’s 1500m semi-finals after finishing second in her preliminary heats at the Stade de France.

“I’ve been here many times before and always made it to the final, but I never take it for granted. All the focus is on making it to the final.”
She will compete in Thursday’s semi-finals alongside Georgia Bell, who was crowned Britain’s 1500m women’s champion in June.
Victoria Ohuruogu needed a first-place finish to avoid a rematch of her own and reached the women’s 400m semi-finals with a season-best time of 50.59 seconds.
