At an energetic rally in Philadelphia, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris introduced her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, detailing his varied resume and often Call him “Coach Walz” because of his successful career as a high school football coach.
“Ninety-one days from now,” Harris said, “the nation will know Coach Walz by another name: Vice President of the United States.”
The current vice president cited Walz’s experience as a National Guard member and teacher, as well as some of his progressive achievements as Minnesota governor, including expanding voting rights measures and gun safety laws. The pair emphasized campaign themes of “freedom” and pushing for “the future” rather than going backwards with Donald Trump.
Republicans have been deriding Walz as a “radical” liberal.
A fist-pumping Walz then demonstrated his ability to attack Trump, poking fun at the rampant violent crime during his administration, before adding: “And that’s not even counting the crimes he’s committed!”
Notably, preceding Harris and Walz was Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who failed to secure a running mate spot but still strongly supported the Democratic candidate.
Harris returned the praise in kind. “Together with Josh Shapiro,” she said, “we’re going to win Pennsylvania.”
