George Mills is involved in a heated argument with France’s Hugo Hay after Britain’s Hugo Hay collided in the 5000m heats at the Stade de France.
Hay remained upright after several men, including Mills, fell on the final lap.
After the pair crossed the finish line, Mills and Hay got into an argument and physical contact, with Mills angrily pointing at the Frenchman.
Mills claimed Hay was responsible for the incident and officials also deemed the Englishman disadvantaged and advanced him to Saturday’s final following a review by the video referee.
mills told British Broadcasting Corporation: “I think it’s clear. When I was about to hit the home straight, I got stepped on and the French guy brought me down.”
Asked what he said when confronting Hay: “I probably wasn’t allowed to say it.”
He added: “From my perspective, it was the perfect qualifier for me, completing the first 2km in six minutes. I thought, ‘No one in this field can do this at that speed. I’m escaping’, so I just sit, wait, bide my time, start the straight, and then bang, get on deck, what can you do?”
Mills, 25, is the son of former Leeds United and England defender Danny.
Former Olympic silver medalist Steve Cram comments on the game British Broadcasting Corporationsaid Mills had gotten himself into a “bad situation.”
“George was at a disadvantage from far away and should have quit earlier,” Crum said before Mills advanced to the final.
“From what I saw, George did make a big push on the home straight and it will be very interesting to see what they (race officials) decide.
“There are a lot of experienced guys there and yes, everyone thinks they can play football but when you’re in a situation like this [very slow pace] The likelihood of people falling is greatly increased.
Hay told Discovery+: “There was a big collision. It wasn’t me. Someone pushed me. Something happened and I turned around and everyone was on the floor, so I hope it wasn’t me. I feel good. “
