In an election year, people ask, “What have you done for me/my family/my country?” The Biden-Harris administration has an unparalleled answer.
We are approaching the second anniversary of two landmark and historic pieces of legislation—the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. You may have heard them talk about these bills, but you may not understand how they help shift America from what they inherited when they took office (the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression) to a recovery focused on lowering costs, creating jobs, equity, climate, and helping Disadvantaged communities.
Here are some facts about the recovery from the White House:
– Nearly 16 million new jobs were created, including nearly 800,000 in the manufacturing industry and nearly 900,000 in the construction industry.
– Working-age Americans make up the highest share of the labor force in 20 years
– Unemployment rates among black and Hispanic Americans hit record lows
– CPI inflation fell by two-thirds to 3.0%, PCE inflation fell by two-thirds to 2.5%
– Record 18 million new business applications – 3 years of record highs, expected to be 4th consecutive year of records
“Overall, these laws are benefiting every state and territory in America and delivering on the president’s mission to be a president for all Americans,” White House deputy chief of staff Natalie Quillian said in a call with reporters Wednesday. “For example, more than 99 percent of high-poverty counties in the United States benefited from CHIP IRA or infrastructure law programs. Additionally, after adjusting for population and high poverty, counties received 58 percent more U.S. investment funds than other counties.
Here are some details on how the Biden-Harris administration is focused on creating good jobs in communities left behind:
– 99% of high-poverty counties in the United States are benefiting from Investing in America programs (BIL, CHIPS, or IRA grant programs). High-poverty counties receive 58% more invested U.S. federal funds per capita than other counties.
– More than 80% of IRA-related private sector investments are located in areas with below-average college graduation rates; 81% of clean energy investments announced since the IRA was signed are located in areas with below-average weekly wages; 78% of county household incomes below average
– According to the Economic Innovation Group, “left-behind counties…experienced the strongest three-year period of job creation and business growth since the early 2000s”
– Economically distressed regions will benefit from a surge in private sector investment in future industries, according to the Brookings Institution; driven by the Invest in America agenda
– These statistics are driving progress at the local level. There are stories of economic recovery across the country, such as Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dayton, Ohio, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Syracuse, New York; and Scranton, Pennsylvania
The biggest problem with the Biden-Harris administration is not that they are not doing a good job of truly helping the people and the country; Instead, people have no idea how much they do, let alone generally.
They were asked on the call why that was, and John Podesta, senior adviser to the president for international climate policy, noted that like the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), once the impacts become apparent, people will realize the benefits in their lives.
Podesta added, “We are working this summer as the Department of Energy works with Citizen Nation to ensure that people in communities across the country understand the direct personal benefits of tax credit and rebate programs, and as I noted, the state The IRS released information this morning showing that more than 3.4 million American households benefited from $8.4 billion in tax credits that lowered costs.
While the administration has done a lot of good things, its messaging has lagged, in part because Democratic love of policy and weeds have marred messaging. If Donald Trump could do 1% of what the Biden-Harris administration did, he would be putting his name on projects, checks, and rebates across the country.
Check out these examples of impacts:
The Biden-Harris administration has revolutionized America, transforming it into a manufacturing nation where decent jobs shift to union jobs wherever possible. The problem is that it’s hard to explain in simple terms what they do. While Trump made promises on infrastructure that were never delivered, President Biden and Vice President Harris are committed to protecting our country and rebuilding it, creating good jobs and lowering costs for the working class.
Just like any other job, the person who becomes president may demonstrate a desire to do actual work, or they may simply be unwilling to do actual work for the perks, power, and credibility. We all know people who put on a show in front of their boss, only to dump their work on their coworkers’ desks as soon as the boss leaves the room. It is rare to find a person who works deeply and finds a way to make this happen, and it is they who make a business or government office work.
President Joe Biden’s interpersonal and diplomatic skills are why we have these bills in place. He will go down in history not only for his patriotism and much-needed decency after four horrific years of Trump’s chaos, incompetence, and national security threats, but also for his Franklin Delano… Rooseveltian transformation.
