Top Ten Recruits: Analyzing QB Commitments
Quarterback is not only the most important position in football, but perhaps in sports as well. So, it’s only natural that college football fans would be interested in recruiting for this position.
With fall camps starting across the country and the season quickly approaching, let’s take a look at where each team stands in the recruiting department at the position.
Here are all the quarterback commits for each of the 18 Big 10 programs.
Illinois
Boyd spent a big junior season with Cardinal Ritter and rose to the top spot on the Illini recruiting committee at quarterback, committing earlier this offseason.
He helped Cardinal Ritter to a 14-0 record and win the state championship last season. Boyd completed 128 of 161 passes for 2,224 yards, 29 touchdowns and one interception, and rushed for 576 yards and six touchdowns. The Illini added Boyd to a roster that includes Missouri, Cincinnati State, Iowa State and Purdue. Other offers came from Texas A&M, UCF, UNLV and West Virginia.
Iowa
Sullivan hopes to transform Iowa’s offense and quarterback position in the future. He has 3,798 career passing yards with 45 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, which certainly shows his potential. “After watching him live, I think his best attribute is throwing the ball against the run. That will be helpful knowing there’s probably going to be a strong running game behind him. He has a new offensive coordinator. The development under Tim Lester will be something worth keeping an eye on,” national recruiting analyst Greg Smith said this offseason.
The signal-caller out of Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, chose the Hawkeyes over offers from programs such as Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan State.
Maryland
It’s not common these days for a program to recruit two quarterbacks in one class, let alone two in one week like Maryland did. The first is Rivals250 rookie Malik Washington, an Elite 11 finalist. Washington, 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, rushed for more than 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. While he wasn’t a running quarterback, he added 10 rushing touchdowns to the stat sheet.
Manville (Texas) three-star Jackson Hamilton followed suit with a commitment. Hamilton played in just two games as a third-year player last season before missing the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. As a sophomore at Pearland High School in 2022, he threw for 1,413 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven touchdowns.
Michigan
Smith is a very interesting prospect with a baseball background that adds an athletic element to his game. Smith was asked to run a lot for his high school team, so he does bring a dual-threat to the position.
Smith has played three years in college and has a career pass rate of 60%. In 34 games, he totaled 6,969 yards, 69 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He’s been dangerous on the ground so far, throwing for 1,878 yards and 41 scores. He had thrown 110 touchdowns before his senior year.
michigan state university
Hannan has certain stakes in getting MSU’s 2025 class started, as he was the first to return to classes in April. The class currently has 16 commitments and ranks 53rd nationally. Hannan hasn’t necessarily lit up the stat sheet during his career, but there are aspects of his game that highlight his potential.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound talent passed for 2,429 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his junior season.
Minnesota
Minnesota has a big-bodied prospect from California with a big arm and a quarterback familiar with big numbers heading their way. “Nebraska is a great fit for Latef because he’s always been the underdog, always competing and fighting, and the new Raiola was that guy before he chose Nebraska, and Latef husband still does it,” said national recruiting director Adam Gorney.
Northwest University
Roman is a somewhat interesting prospect, having eclipsed 1,000 yards just once in his career despite making eight or more starts in three seasons. Northwestern’s offense was heavy and he had some momentum of his own. He has 171 career carries for 1,279 yards and 15 touchdowns.
“Roman just ran a 100-meter dash in 11.13 seconds at 200 pounds. This type of wheel allowed him to average 7 yards per rush as a teenager. Roman also has passing potential and a relatively quick release. Fast and very comfortable.
Ohio State University
Tavien St. Clair is the highest-ranked prospect of the bunch and certainly one of the highest-ranked prospects in the country, and he has a case to be the highest-ranked overall prospect in the 2025 class. As an Ohio native heading to the Buckeyes, he knew exactly what to expect in the Big Ten and wanted to continue the Buckeyes’ stature nationally.
At 6-foot-4, 228 pounds, he’s NFL-ready and has great arm talent, the definition of a five-star prospect.
Oregon
The traditional Ducks had a stellar sophomore and junior seasons, the best of the two on this list. In 23 games, he threw for 4,863 yards, 54 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He’s 6-foot-5, 204 pounds and has a strong build.
“Smith showed he can handle the ball well in 7-on-7 situations and does a good job pitching at all levels. He can still step up a few things, but Oregon State also has some quality players on its traditional team. performance, and there’s a lot to like with his size and pedigree,” National Recruiting Director Adam Gorney
penn state university

As his profile has grown and he’s moved back to South Florida, Krizza acknowledged that other programs have begun calling back with greater frequency and asking about the strength of his commitment.
Purdue University
Anderson is the Boilermakers’ first commitment from the 2025 class, giving Ryan Walters and company the quarterback of the cycle. He is undoubtedly one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country, with 9,540 career passing yards and 109 touchdowns but only 16 interceptions.

St. John’s talent chose Rutgers over Cincinnati, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, the University of Central Florida and more.
UCLA
UCLA signed two quarterbacks within four weeks of each other. The higher-ranked of the pair is top-100 prospect Madden Iamaleava, and the other is three-star Colton Gumino out of Illinois.
Iamaleava broke out during his junior season, passing for 3,636 yards, 43 touchdowns and four interceptions.
“Imaleva has the frame of a modern quarterback that’s pretty fleshed out at this stage, plus a nimble arm that allows him to execute as well as any of the big-name pass rushers in the class,” said national recruiting analyst John Garcia. As smooth as a golfer.
A month after Imaleva committed, Colton Gumino did the same. As a junior, Gumino threw for 2,172 yards with 27 touchdowns and four interceptions.
University of Southern California
Lewis was once rated the No. 1 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and has been so since he reclassified to the 2025 cycle. Lewis is one of the smoothest and most consistent quarterbacks in the country, rarely making mistakes and often performing at a high level on the national stage.
There will certainly be discussions about who is the No. 1 prospect in the country, but Lewis will be the leading contender to stay there in the future.
washington
