When you woke up this morning, Christopher Nolan’s movie Interstellar Probably the least of your concerns. However, by the end of Wednesday, fans of the film had been on a journey worthy of a space travel adventure, with an equally happy ending. The film will return to theaters in 70mm IMAX format, just a little later than originally expected.
Earlier in the day, a Christopher Nolan fan account tweeted a rumor that Paramount had destroyed all 70mm IMAX copies of the film and that it had delayed its original release. A re-release is scheduled for September 26th. Word spread from there, and io9 reached out to Paramount for comment but received no response.
Later that day, almost certainly because of these rumors, Variety broke the news that Interstellar The re-release is still in the works, just on December 6th instead of September 27th. The article also cited “studio sources” who “refuted rumors of a 70mm print.” Interstellar was destroyed. Paramount claims it has more copies of the film on file than most other pictures. However, it is not uncommon for film to become unusable after a theatrical run due to the wear and tear that occurs when film is shown on a large screen.
That’s a long hint, and yes, some prints may have been ruined, but that’s normal, they have more, and they’re still bringing the movie back. The reason for the delay wasn’t those prints, either. This is reportedly to better align with the upcoming home entertainment version.
Basically, it was all too much for a seemingly random movie, even if it did celebrate its tenth anniversary a few months later.
Written and directed by Nolan, Interstellar It tells the story of a father (played by Matthew McConaughey) who goes on a deep space mission to try to save the world. In doing so, he left behind his children (one of whom was played by a young Timothée Chalamet), who later grew up (later played by Jessica Chastain and Kasey A. Played by Fleck). This is a unique and beautiful film that you should definitely plan on revisiting in 70mm IMAX in December if you can.
