GREENSBORO, N.C. — The start of the first round of the Wyndham Championship has been delayed until at least Thursday afternoon as the region faces heavy rains from the aftermath of Hurricane Debbie.
Shortly after 5 a.m. ET, tournament officials announced that kickoff times were suspended and the game would begin before 3 p.m.
The PGA Tour is expected to provide an update at noon. The first kickoff was scheduled for 6:50 a.m.
Late Wednesday afternoon, tournament officials announced that all Thursday’s games would be played without fans due to weather conditions.
Multiple flash flood warnings were issued for the area overnight, which was hit by torrential rain.
The Wyndham Championship is the last regular event on the PGA Tour schedule. Based on tournament results, the final 70-golfer lineup for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which begins next week, has been determined.
There are 156 golfers participating in the Wyndham Championship, which is scheduled to be played on Sunday.
