King Charles and the Princess of Wales have both been praised for their transparency about recent health issues, but Queen Camilla initially wanted the king to keep his struggles private, according to one author.
In January, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles would receive outpatient treatment for benign prostatic hypertrophy, and then in February, the palace revealed that he had cancer.
Buckingham Palace said at the time: “Other than confirmation that His Majesty does not have prostate cancer, no further details will be revealed at this stage.”
Charles initially gave up royal duties during cancer treatment but returned in late April with a reduced schedule.

“Queen Camilla was initially opposed to revelations about his condition,” Robert Jobson of Our King: Charles III – The Man and Monarch Revealed told The Independent this week.
“But the king vetoed her request because he saw it as an opportunity to take the lead and encourage men with similar symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.

“Following the Queen’s announcement, there was a significant increase in searches related to prostate enlargement on the NHS website. In the 48 hours following the announcement, the NHS England benign prostatic hyperplasia page was visited more than 26,000 times, while the average number of visits per day was only 1,400.
On Saturday, Buckingham Palace posted photos on social media of Charles attending the May Games in Scotland.
The post read: “The King joined the audience to watch traditional Highland games including hammer throw, sheaf throwing and stone pushing, and presented trophies to the winning tug-of-war team.”

Kate Middleton was also praised for her candor this spring when she revealed her cancer diagnosis, following months of speculation about her health and announcing in January that she was undergoing treatment Planned abdominal surgery.
The princess returned to the public eye in June when she joined Charles and his family at Trooping the Colour, the king’s official birthday celebrations.
She wrote a personal note on her Instagram page ahead of the event, saying she was making “good progress” with her treatment and acknowledging she had “good days and bad days.”
“I’m learning how to be patient, especially in uncertain situations,” she wrote. “Let each day take its course, listen to my body, and allow myself time to heal.”

She also appeared on the final day of Wimbledon in July. The Princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
