Team USA earned two of its three medals in the women’s long jump thanks to a gold-medal performance from Tara Davis-Woodhall and a bronze medal from Jasmine Moore.
It was Davis-Woodhall’s first Olympic gold medal and Moore’s first medal in the long jump. Moore also won a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump on Saturday, Team USA’s first medal in the women’s event. Their athletic dominance is a continuation of America’s long history of high-level performance in track and field.
“Is this real? Am I dreaming?” Pinch me. I’m so excited I’ve been through hell and back and faced everything you can imagine. When I found myself skydiving on August 8th at 8pm, I knew it was perfect.
Davis-Woodhall, whose husband is upcoming Paralympic athlete Hunter Woodhall, has been open about her mental health struggles.
“I’ve never let anything get me down. I’ve worked really hard this year to keep a positive attitude and stay motivated. That motivation turned into performance, and performance turned into reality, and the reality is that I’m an Olympic gold medalist,” she explain.
Bronze medalist Moore was also ecstatic about her medal-winning performance.
“I’m shocked. It’s not what I imagined, but it’s better,” she said.
“Honestly, after the triple jump, I didn’t feel the best, qualifying was a little tough. I was tired all the time. My body is getting better day by day. I’m just ecstatic and so grateful.
