PARIS — The United States won gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the Olympics on Friday, their 12th title in the event, while Great Britain faltered in its final event.
The U.S. team, composed of Melissa Jefferson, Tewanisha Terry, Paris Olympic 200m champion Gabby Thomas and Shakari Richardson, successfully completed the race in 41.78 seconds after taking over the baton.
The same cannot be said for the UK.
Amy Hunt led the U.S. through three legs as she struggled to pass the baton to Daryll Neita in pouring rain at the Stade de France. Netta lost all her momentum but still managed a time of 41.85 to help Team GB take the silver medal.
Germany won the bronze medal in 41.97.
The United States dominated the event as 12-time Olympic champions but lost to archrival Jamaica at the Tokyo Games.
