Chesterfield had to pick up a point on their return to the EFL, with Swindon coming from behind to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
Armando Dobra gave the Pinnacles the lead in the Division II opener, but Will Wright scored in the second half to earn the tie for the visitors.
Chesterfield took the lead in the 15th minute when Will Grigg’s shot was blocked by Jack Bycroft and Dobra was the first to react, sending the ball into the net from close range.
Chesterfield appealed for a penalty midway through the first half when Michael Jacobs appeared to be fouled by Grant Hall in the penalty area, with manager Paul Cook complaining to referee Scott Oldham He was shown a yellow card.
Harry Smith received a pass from Wright and headed the ball slightly over the visitors’ goal.
Grigg then fired a shot from inside the penalty area, but it was saved by Bycroft.
Swindon started the second half strongly, with Olly Clark’s effort narrowly deflected before Wright’s shot from distance was deflected wide.
But Wright found the target in the 64th minute and once again hit the upper right corner of the net with a long-range shot to equalize the score.
