Iman Khalif made his final decision after winning gold at Roland Garros on Friday.
The Algerian was reviled after his participation in the Olympics became the subject of heated debate.
But in the 66kg final of the 2024 Paris Olympics, she defeated Chinese player Liu Yang with a unanimous decision and won the championship.
The Algerian welterweight has been accused by boxing body IBA, which has been expelled from the Olympics, of saying she should not compete in the women’s division.
The IBA used an unspecified qualifying test to disqualify Khalif from the world championships last year, making its ruling only after Khalif reached the final.
Although she did meet the International Olympic Committee’s criteria, a controversy arose over her qualification for the 2024 Paris Games when she abruptly called out Italy’s Angela Carini in just 46 seconds. The controversy reached a fever pitch.
Yet at every stage of the game, amid all the fury, Khalif walked into the arena proudly and proudly left again with the results she needed to ensure.
Celebrations reached a climax at Roland Garros on Friday when Khalif beat China’s Liu Yang to win the 66kg gold in front of thousands of supporters.
After winning amateur boxing’s biggest prize, Khalif can end her Paris 2024 Olympics with one final word.
“As for my qualifications, whether I’m a woman or not, I’ve made a lot of statements in the media that I’m fully qualified to compete in this competition,” she told World Press after her gold medal match.
“I am a woman like other women.
“I was born a woman, I lived a woman, I compete as a woman. There’s no doubt about it.”
She added: “There are enemies, enemies of success. That’s what I’m saying.
“These are successful enemies. These attacks also give my success a special flavor.”
Throughout, she never lost sight of her goal.
“First and foremost, the Olympics are a dream, it’s every athlete’s dream,” she said.
“Here in Paris, thank God, the whole world, the Arab world, Algerians, they all know how hard I work.”
She hopes to learn from her extraordinary experience.
“I think the whole world now knows the story of Iman Khalif. I come from a very small village, a very small family. I was born and raised in a poor neighborhood. But my family has always been proud of me, They always supported me in this sport,” she said.
“My message to the world is that they should abide by Olympic principles and should avoid bullying. They should not bully others. This is the message of the Olympics. Olympic values are extremely important and I want people to stop bullying.”
“I hope we won’t see any similar attacks at future Olympics.
“The attacks I hear on social media are terrible, senseless, and affect people’s dignity,” she continued.
“All the women who came to support me today sent messages saying our honor above all else.”
