An Israeli attack on a Gaza school housing displaced people killed more than 100 Palestinians and injured dozens more, the Hamas-controlled Gaza government said on Saturday. Sri Lanka command center.
The Hamas media office said in a statement that people taking refuge in the school were performing dawn prayers when the attack occurred, causing many casualties. Medics have not yet reached all the bodies, the statement said.
Health authorities in Gaza did not immediately provide information.
The Israeli military said in a statement that its air force struck a command and control center where Hamas commanders and operatives were hiding.
The military said it had taken steps to reduce the risk of harm to civilians “including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and intelligence information”. It had no immediate comment on reports of casualties in Gaza.
Israel launched an offensive in Gaza aimed at wiping out the group after Hamas militants stormed into southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 250 hostages, according to Israeli statistics. .
Nearly 40,000 Palestinians have since been killed in Israel’s offensive on Gaza, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians.
Health officials said most of the deaths were among civilians. Israel, which has killed 329 people in Gaza, said at least a third of the Palestinian deaths were militants.
The United States, Egypt and Qatar are trying to restart cease-fire talks in Gaza and have scheduled a new round of talks for Thursday amid growing concerns about a wider conflict between Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah. Tehran also supports Hamas.
