Tonight at D23, in a surprising move, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni took to the stage to give attendees their first look at the next show Star Wars Movie: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The film is set at a currently undisclosed point in time in the events of the Disney+ streaming series, and will bridge the gap between the rise of the remnants of the Empire and the final conflict we’ll see in Dave Filoni’s The New Republic movie gap (before that, we’ll probably get AhsokaSeason 2).
D23 footage shown begins with a montage of previous footage The Mandalorian We hear a new voice when Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) meets Grogu, who describes the child as his new apprentice, and although he is a bounty hunter, he must learn more about himself The work you do is selective. no also When we cut to him walking into a bar and shooting a bunch of people, though, we’re being selective. The new clip gives us our first big surprise: The Razor Crest, which was destroyed in the climax of season 2, is back again, now taking to the skies. We pan to see Din in the cockpit in another shot and another spot, with no one else behind him Star Wars RebelsZeb Aurelios.
Next, we cut to Din entering a base alone, in an ice world that looks a lot like Hoth. Grogu crawls through the tunnels, Imperial rat droids roll around the place, and we get some super-fast shots from their perspectives as blasters fire. Classic Imperial snowtroopers walk around the base, further enhancing the atmosphere of Hoth. We cut to Din as he climbs on top of an AT-ST walker as it travels through snow-covered mountains and pops out of the top hatch. Din and the walkers fell down the mountain, and at the bottom of the mountain, he landed at the feet of two AT-AT walkers.
The clip ends with something less sinister: Grogu and 2 Anzerans (aka Babu Frik’s species, in The rise of skywalker and The Mandalorian Season 3).
What mystery can Mando and Grogu uncover that warrants the leap from streaming to the big screen? we will know when The Mandalorian and Grogu Released on May 22, 2026.
