Springboks hire New Zealand attack coach Tony Brown to play more fluid rugby, Sia Kolisi, Peter-Stephen Dutoy set to win against Joe Schmidt’s error-ridden Australia Te and Khawaja Smith also scored on five attempts.
South Africa also beat Australia by 26 points in Brisbane in 2013, winning 38-12.
The Wallabies’ only try came through Hunter Paisami on Saturday after South Africa lost to Malcolm Marx and Marco van Staden ) received a yellow card and the number of players was reduced to 13.
Australia will look to bounce back next weekend when they take on South Africa at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Springbok captain Kolisi, whose side dominated the scrum and led 21-0 at half-time, said: “We said that as a team we have to win an important game. I’m happy for the boys Feel proud.
“We stuck to our plan for this week. We are a learning team. Coach Tony [Brown] Trying to get us to play differently offensively.
“When you’re in the lead you have to make sure you take your chances and we lost some lineouts in key areas. That’s an area we need to improve on.”
“South Africa consumes Australia’s energy”
Australia captain Alan Ararato said after their first defeat under Schmidt: “You have to give credit to South Africa. They came in and put pressure on us.
“We didn’t have the ball most of the first half. It was a tough learning curve for our team, but we have to get back together and keep going.”
Schmidt said of South Africa: “They are a very strong team, an experienced team and they won the physical battle.
“Their breakdown was very strong, they dominated possession and ground in the first half and that weakened the boys a little bit.
“It would be nice to get more out of the game but we’ve got a baseline and it’s not a huge shock to us where the Springboks are ranked.
“That’s what we have to work towards.”
