A young Jewish man was stabbed early Saturday morning near the Chabad headquarters in Crown Heights.
Witnesses said the attacker shouted “Free Palestine” and other anti-Semitic slurs before stabbing the victim.

Yaacov Behrman, a spokesman for Chabad-Lubavitch, shared details of the incident on X .
“I can confirm that a hate crime stabbing occurred in Crown Heights at approximately 2 a.m. this morning near East Parkway and Kingston Avenue, near Chabad headquarters.”
“The perpetrator, a black male in his early 20s, shouted ‘Free Palestine’ and after speaking to the victim asked, ‘Do you want to die?’ before stabbing him.
“The victim, a young Jewish adult man, was taken to hospital and is expected to recover due to the location of the stabbing and the quick response of paramedics.”

Residents chased the attacker and detained him until police arrived to arrest him, according to Bellman.
The New York Post reported, “Police arrested Vincent Sumpter, 22, of Brooklyn. He was charged with assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Anti-Semitism has risen since Hamas launched a terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, with Jewish leaders condemning the attack.
Mark Treyger, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, wrote on attack.
“This abhorrent and abhorrent attack on a Jewish young man in Brooklyn because of his identity should not and cannot be viewed in isolation.”
I pray for a speedy and full recovery for this young man and thank the NYPD, Hazara, and the volunteers who came to his rescue.
This is a dangerous escalation of the climate we currently live in, and it should outrage every New Yorker because it is an attack on every New Yorker.
