Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has apologized after footage emerged of the player appearing to inhale laughing gas.
The 27-year-old posted a video on social media over the weekend showing him taking a breath from a balloon.
The footage was released shortly after Bissouma took part in Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich on Saturday. The Mali international played 45 minutes for Ange Postkoglu’s side, who lost 3-2 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I want to apologize for these videos,” he said. “This shows a severe lack of judgment.
“I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved and I take my responsibilities as a footballer and role model very seriously.”
“We are investigating these incidents,” a Spurs spokesman added after the video emerged. “This will be handled as an internal matter.”
Tottenham will kick off the 2024/25 Premier League live broadcast against Leicester City on August 19 sky sports.
Since 2023, the recreational use of laughing gas (also known as NOS or nitrous oxide) has been criminalized in the UK and classified as a Class C drug.
Kane backs Solanke to shine at Tottenham
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane says Dominic Solanke will shine in north London following his £65m move from Bournemouth.
Solanke, 26, scored 19 goals for the Cherries last season and will join Ange Postkoglu’s side ahead of the 2024/25 season.
“It should be great. Dom is a great player,” Kane said. “He plays with high intensity and speed. The way Ainge plays, he’s definitely going to get a chance on this team.”
“I think it’s a very good signing. I saw him in the dressing room and I wish him all the best and of course I hope he has a great season.”
