The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed veteran safety Tashaun Gipson Sr., the team announced Sunday.
Gibson has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the club.
This will be Gipson’s second time with the Jaguars. He started all 48 regular season games and three playoff games from 2016-18, including Jacksonville’s appearance in the AFC Championship Game during the 2017 season.
Gipson, 34, will be suspended six games before the start of the 2024 season for violating the NFL’s doping policy.
Gipson spent the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He started 17 games in 2022 and intercepted five passes, after being picked off just once in 16 starts last season.
Overall, Gipson had 33 interceptions and returned three touchdowns in 173 regular season games (165 starts) in 12 NFL seasons. He also played for the Cleveland Browns (2012-15), Houston Texans (2019) and Chicago Bears (2020-21).
Gipson, an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming, has 684 career tackles, three fumble receptions and 2.5 sacks. In 2014, he was a professional pitcher for the Browns.
Jacksonville released linebacker Ty Summers to make room for Gipson. Summers, 28, played in 67 games (one first down) in five seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2019-21), Jaguars (2022) and New Orleans Saints (2022-23). Completed 60 tackles in the game.
