Fact or fiction: UCF will sign top-20 class in 2025
Director of Rival Rankings and National Transfer Portal Analyst Adam Friedman Recruiting analysts nationwide Marshall Levenson, Jefferson Powell DeathValleyInsider.com and Brandon Helwig Users of UCFSports.com will address three topics and determine whether they believe each statement is fact or fiction.
1. The next national champion will recruit the top 10 players into the team.
Friedman: Novel. Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia are clear title contenders in the top 10 recruiting rankings. The odds are stacked against one of these three players winning the national title, but someone outside of the top 10 could easily pull off the ultimate success. No. 12 Oregon, No. 13 Texas and No. 28 Mississippi also have national championship aspirations this season. Honestly, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of these six programs win it all this year, but I’d be betting on Oregon State, Texas and Mississippi State right now.
Levenson: Fact. You can look at programs like Oregon State (No. 12) or Texas (No. 13), which are not in the top 10, but you would feel like they are the favorites. However, I’m focusing on the typically top four teams of Ohio State, LSU, Alabama and Georgia, and I feel like the championship could be among them. If I were to pick a national champion before the season started, it would probably be in this group, especially with Georgia being the current favorite. I even consider names like Oklahoma State (No. 9) and Tennessee (No. 10) as potential title contenders. Do I believe they will be in the championship game? No, but they should be one of the favorites to make the 12-team playoffs and at least have a chance. This season may be one of the most wide-open we’ve seen in years, but it’s still wise to lean on those who have done it time and time again over the past two decades, as Alabama, LSU That’s what the University and the state of Georgia have proven.

2. LSU’s CJ Jimcoily should be projected as a linebacker these days.
Friedman: Facts. CJ Jimcoily was trending toward a position change last offseason and appears to be still on that track. Currently listed as a safety, the new LSU commit has the makings of an impressive linebacker. The 6-foot-3, nearly 210-pound strong guard has the frame to continue adding weight once he reaches the college level. Jimcoily has a sub-4.8 40 rep, a 32-inch vertical, and a 120-inch broad jump. Those measurables are good for a safety, but these numbers make him one of the best linebacker prospects in this class.
Powell: Facts. Jim Coley is a huge safety and has great athleticism, but looking at his long-term career potential, he might be better at linebacker. Ultimately it may depend on how he transitions once he gets to campus, but with his size and athleticism, he could easily play any linebacker position. He could also be an ideal candidate for LSU’s star spot, which would move him closer to the line of scrimmage, similar to what we expect to see from Burns Major this season. But in terms of long-term potential, he projects better at one of these spots than at one of the traditional safety spots.

3. UCF will become the first Big 12 team not named Texas or Oklahoma to crack the top 20 since TCU in 2016.
Friedman: Facts. How about the Cavaliers? They were already leaning toward signing their highest-ranked class ever, and then they transferred Rivals250 receiver Jayvan Boggs from Missouri. Gus Malzahn His staff easily has the best recruiting class in the Big 12 right now. They have as many four-star commitments (nine) as the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the Big 12 combined (TCU and Baylor). The Cavaliers are assembling a roster capable of competing for a Big 12 championship in the near future.
Helweger: Fact. Very likely. UCF’s recent comeback against Boggs has rocketed its 2025 team rankings into the top 15. The college has five four-star players) four).
Courses at the University of Central Florida are believed to be largely complete, but staff are continuing to work on goals already committed elsewhere. If they can stick with the commitments of their current 20 players, plus a few higher-profile players, they’ll have a good chance of staying within the top 20 on National Signing Day.
After Boggs (the highest-ranked player in UCF history) came on board, the head coach Gus Malzahn Talked about recent recruiting success.
“This is a place where people want to come,” Malzahn said. “Everyone can see the future. I’m sure there are a few others who want to come as well. We’ll see what happens. We have to win on the pitch. We win on the pitch and the floodgates will open.”
“It’s going to be fun. But it’s an exciting time to be a part of our program and be the head coach.”
