Google’s next big hardware event is coming, Made by Google 2024 is scheduled to open on August 13.
That doesn’t mean the tech giant can’t wait to share some exciting news. Google may just want to launch the new Pixel phone before Apple’s expected release of the iPhone 16 in September. But whatever the reason, it looks like we’ll be getting Google’s next-gen device sooner than originally expected.
Google Pixel 9: All the rumors we know so far
Here’s what to expect from Made by Google 2024.
What is made by Google?
Made by Google is an annual event showcasing Google’s latest products, with the main focus usually being the next generation Pixel phones. They’re not the only devices on the agenda, though, as past Made by Google events have also featured Google’s Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds.
This year’s live event will be held at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, although it has previously been held in New York and Brooklyn.
What can we expect from Made by Google 2024?
Google has repeatedly hinted at what we can expect at its August event, teasing its upcoming devices on social media.
Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro

The Made by Google event in August will launch the next generation of Pixel phones, including the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. As per usual, a lot of information about these phones has already been leaked and rumors about the series are rife.
Google appears to be changing its hardware design with the Pixel 9, eschewing the rounded edges of the Pixel 8 series in favor of a flatter feel. The Pixel 8’s rectangular rear camera headline also appears to be gone, replaced by a more rounded, pill-shaped design.
The Pixel 9 series will of course get spec boosts to match their new looks, with all models reportedly getting higher-megapixel cameras and faster Tensor G4 chips. According to reports, the Pixel 9 Pro will also have 4GB more RAM than the Pixel 8 Pro, providing 16GB of RAM to run Google’s AI chatbot Gemini more smoothly.
The Pixel 9 series’ artificial intelligence and Gemini features are likely to get a fair amount of attention. Even Google’s official teaser videos for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro 9 Fold focus more on the Geminis than the phones themselves, just like parents who make their kids’ birthday parties all about their kids’ younger siblings. While Made by Google is first and foremost a hardware event, artificial intelligence is currently the undisputed darling of the tech industry, so it’s no surprise it’s getting attention.
Google Pixel 9 Pro XL
We’re sure the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are coming soon. If the rumors are true, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is likely to join them.
Mix and match speed of light
The last XL version of the Google Pixel series was the 2019 Pixel 4 XL, which offered a larger screen size and battery life compared to the Pixel 4. It’s no surprise that it surpasses the Pixel 9 Pro.
Even so, early leaks suggest the Pixel 9 Pro XL will be even smaller than the Pixel 8, with a 6.5-inch screen compared to the latter’s 6.7-inch screen. If true, this could mean the Pixel 9 Pro is smaller. We’ll have to wait until August 13th to find out for sure.

Google launched its first foldable smartphone at last year’s Google I/O event, introducing the Google Pixel Fold to the world. This year, the tech giant will follow up with the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
This is another announcement that we’re sure is happening, and Google has released a teaser video to illustrate it. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold looks slimmer than Google’s first foldable phone, with a square rear camera module replacing its predecessor’s rectangular strip. As usual, we can expect upgraded specs as well.
Google Pixel Watch 3 (and Pixel Watch 3 XL)
While the Google Pixel 9 phones are undoubtedly the highlight of Google season, they likely won’t be attending this party alone. It is reported that Made by Google will launch Google Pixel Watch 3, which will be available in 41 mm and 45 mm sizes. By comparison, last year’s Pixel Watch 2 was only 41mm in size.
Some earlier reports suggested that the 45mm version of the Pixel Watch 3 would actually be called the Pixel Watch 3 XL, although that name is missing from the new leak, which raises some questions about how Google will name the devices.
According to reports, the Pixel Watch 3 will have thinner bezels to accommodate a larger screen, and the screen will also be twice as bright as the previous model. Google’s latest watch may also introduce a new power-saving mode that will extend the Pixel Watch 3’s charge time to 36 hours. The device’s standard battery life with an always-on display will apparently still be 24 hours, the same as the Pixel Watch 2.
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2
Google may also launch its next-generation wireless headphones this August. While details about the rumored Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are still scarce, leaks suggest the earbuds will come in at least four different colors: pink, aqua, ivory, and gray (though they may get fancier names ).
The case of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is reportedly slightly heavier than the Pro’s, while the Buds themselves appear to have a larger grille. Google also appears to be bringing back the stabilizing arc of the Pixel Buds, which is designed to help keep the earbuds in your ears.
Google TV streaming
There will be plenty of new smartphones, new headphones, and new watches, but Google probably won’t stop there. Made by Google may also launch a follow-up to the 2020 Chromecast with Google TV, called Google TV Streamer.
Leaks suggest that the Google TV Streamer has ditched the dongle form factor of its predecessor in favor of a piece of hardware designed to sit on a desk or entertainment device. The wide, pill-shaped device’s angled surface makes it look similar to a magnetic phone charger.
The Google TV Streamer is likely to have HDMI, Ethernet, and USB ports, while its remote will have a customizable shortcut button as well as buttons for YouTube and Netflix.
Android 15, maybe?
Made by Google may be a hardware event, but without software, hardware is nothing. Many have been waiting for Google to launch Android 15 this August, bringing new features such as theft detection, locked space to hide apps, and the ability to add photos to Google Wallet.
However, recent reports suggest that the Pixel 9 series will launch on Android 14 instead of 15, raising questions about whether Google’s OS is ready to debut. Android 15 is currently in its fourth and final scheduled beta, with the next update expected to be officially released.
Even if Android 15 doesn’t show up on August 13, it might come in the next few months.
