Vox drops out of top 100
The ECB have recalled all-rounder Chris Woakes from the hundred to ensure he is rested ahead of the Sri Lanka series amid concerns over Stokes’ condition.
Woakes was expected to feature in Birmingham Phoenix’s match against Trent Rockets on Monday, as well as Thursday’s final group stage match against Manchester Originals.
There appeared to be a miscommunication between Phoenix and the ECB, with the team announcing Woakes was injured while the ECB informed the 35-year-old Woakes was resting.
Shortly before Monday’s match began, Birmingham Phoenix said on Instagram: “Wishing @chriswoakes a speedy recovery. The England bowling all-rounder will not feature in this year’s tournament due to injury.”
Following the exits of Stuart Broad and James Anderson from Test cricket, Woakes has made 51 appearances and emerged as the senior bowler in England’s attack.
