Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR), mother jones, revealand CIR Studios are recruiting a full-time remote controller First Amendment Fellow Join our legal department. This one-year paid position will give the fellow the opportunity to work closely with in-house counsel as an attorney.
Responsibilities:
- Pre-publication review of articles, podcasts, documentaries,
- intellectual property rights issues,
- news interview questions,
- Review and edit amicus statements,
- Help journalists submit and write appeal letters for public records requests,
- Litigating freedom of information and proceedings, appearing in court and defending defamation proceedings and other litigation matters.
qualifications:
- Be a junior lawyer or a 2025 law school graduate
- Possess an outstanding academic record and excellent research and writing skills,
- Demonstrated ability to work with a large and diverse workforce,
- Demonstrated keen interest in media law and the First Amendment,
- Have a strong sense of humor and a great academic spirit, and
- Ability to multi-task and work under deadline pressure.
Please note: Priority will be given to students receiving public interest funding. This scholarship is designed to provide learning and work experience for new attorneys interested in media law and the First Amendment. To be clear, this position was not budgeted to result in employment a year later.
