New York Democratic Party rally chants turned chaotic on Wednesday night as pro-Hamas protesters stormed the campaign events of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
The event, billed as a “kickoff to the election of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in New York City,” drew about 200 supporters to a venue on West 135th Street, PIX 11 reported. Harlem to Highlands Campaign Committee Organization.
Attendees included union members, local voters and Democrats. Party representative. Top Democratic leaders including New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams and Congressman Adriano Espelat also attended the event.
“Everything from people who didn’t want to go to the convention to people trying to get tickets to the convention. We were getting calls that night and they were saying tickets were like, people were selling tickets on the black market, or convention tickets for up to $5,000,” Staten Island Representative Serena Grey told PIX 11 News.
However, just across the street, tensions were brewing. A large group of protesters gathered behind barricades to express opposition to U.S. support for Israel in its ongoing conflict with Hamas.
The protests escalated, leading to chaos and the detonation of smoke bombs as demonstrators tried to break through barricades around the event, Ukrainian-American journalists reported. Olya Scout Narrator.
