In a speech at the AFSCME conference this week, Walz attacked many of the accusations against him but did not specifically address them. Instead, he talked about his 24 years in the National Guard (which no one disputes) and his work in Congress helping veterans. Walz did not mention the name of J.D. Vance, Trump’s choice for vice president, but said: “I am very proud of my service to this country. I firmly believe that you should never denigrate another person’s service record. For anyone To those of you who had the courage to put on the uniform for our great country, I have just a few words: Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
The speech sparked a backlash on social media, especially from members of the U.S. military, because it confused the allegations against Walz. Retired colonel Rob Maness wrote on To embellish one’s military service record for personal gain is to humiliate oneself.
