Right-hander Antonio Guerrero struck out 12 batters in five innings in the Little League World Series opener on Wednesday in Williamsport, Pa., and Raul Hernandez Jr. The inning ended with a no-hitter, and Mexico defeated Aruba 2-0.
Guerrero faced 18 batters and helped Mexico register its fifth no-hitter and third in tournament history. The 13-year-old hit 77 mph on the radar (equivalent to 99 mph when converted to MLB mound distance and dimensions).
After he allowed two errors and two four-ball runs, Hernandez struck out two of the three batters he faced in the sixth inning.
Mexico scored its first run of the tournament in the bottom of the second inning when Ulises Ortiz opened the plate on a triple to take a 1-0 lead .
Mexico faces Venezuela on Friday.
