Celtic have rejected Atalanta’s fifth bid for midfielder Matt O’Reilly.
It is understood that the Serie A club’s latest offer is £21.5 million plus add-ons.
Atlanta has been trying to introduce the Denmark international for more than a month. Previous offers of 14 million pounds, 14.3 million pounds, 15 million pounds and 20 million pounds were all rejected by Celtic.
Brighton have also held talks with the Scottish Premiership champions over O’Reilly, with a number of clubs including Chelsea also interested.
O’Reilly made 49 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side last season, scoring 19 goals and providing 18 assists. He scored in the 4-0 win over Kilmarnock on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership. The Celtics’ second goal.
The 23-year-old is contracted to Celtic until 2027, with the club rejecting a £20m bid from Atletico Madrid in January.
Rodgers: Focus on the players, not the league
Rodgers has previously warned clubs that O’Reilly will not leave Celtic on the cheap this summer:
“Obviously there will be offers for Matt O’Reilly, but I repeat, we don’t have to sell and we don’t want to sell,” he told us. Sky Sports News.
“If there’s an offer that fits the player’s valuation, that’s a different story.
“Before that moment I was pretty relaxed because he was training really well and working really hard and until that changed we just continued to focus on the show.
“The challenge for teams coming to a club like Celtic is they sometimes put their value in the league rather than the players.
“What’s important to me is that if a player does leave here, they pay for the player and that doesn’t always happen.
“No player is going to leave here unless the valuation is right and no team is at that level yet.”
