You might ask yourself: Why is this a trend now? What is a microtrend? Should I do this on social media?
For agents trying to get in front of an audience in an interesting and meaningful way – Anatomy Tik Tok Trends can be complex. Let’s take a look at what a microtrend is, how it started, and my three golden rules for deciding whether a trend is worth incorporating into your business. marketing strategy.
Backgrounds and backdrops
Microtrends usually refer to things related to beauty or fashion gaining momentum on social media. Trends appear quickly and usually fade away quickly, and then the next microtrend appears.
The “modesty” trend started when transgender TikTok influencer Jools Lebron created a series of videos about how they stay “modest” and professional in the workplace.

In a “cute” way, James emphasizes that you have to bypass authenticity and adapt to your surroundings to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
It’s also important to understand the influencer’s background. For example, James created the trend as a nod to the social and political pressure that cyberdolls in the trans community continue to face.
This trend is different from the “Hawk-Tua” trend, which is not dignified, elegant, attentive or very respectful.
It’s the ultimate “vanilla” sign that you’ve got it all done – because who has a problem with someone who is low-key trying to have an organized, professional, mindful presence and appearance?
But in true Gen Z and Gen Alpha fashion, the trend veers toward sarcasm and sarcasm, pointing out both the absurdity of having to be demure and the need for demureness in those who are too loud or trying too hard.
define it: dignifiedan adjective meaning conservative, modest, or serious.
So far, we’ve seen agents jumping on this trend, describing how they run their businesses and pointing out other agents who were unprepared and causing deal disruption. Commission solution? Not very dignified or attentive.
Fail-safe system for evaluating trends
As with any microtrend, you need to weigh the pros and cons associated with it. I have been coaching and teaching real estate agents on social media trends since 2012, and I follow three golden rules when it comes to trends:
- Research and understand trends to make sure you understand the context.
- Weigh the pros and cons of trends versus your brand’s mission. Ask yourself: What is the mission of the “trending” post, and is it beneficial to the goal? Is this worth being attached to my personal digital footprint forever?
- Can you explain this trend to grandma without embarrassment? (You should have seen me explaining the Hawk-Tua trend to my grandma.)
As far as trends go, this one is pretty tame, and since it implies professionalism, it can be a fun space to add a bit of humor into your marketing if this is part of your brand.
Distinguish between thought and wisdom
What are we saying at this moment as a culture? If you want to be taken seriously, you have to buck up, but is it really necessary to be taken seriously? I’ve written a lot about what one should and shouldn’t wear, and whether it’s ethical to ask someone to change themselves to “sell” to the right customers.
If your mission is to get the job done with the least amount of friction and frustration at work, you may have to buckle down and remain dignified, cautious, and humble. I work with seniors and my clients get excited when I wear a nice pair of pleated slacks and pearls.
I have been dress coded many times in my life since I was 16 years old.
Bright colors, animal prints, plaid pants, my hair style, the comfort of my shoes, the length of my skirts were all topics of discussion and “problems” that needed to be solved.
Add in your current weight and how much makeup you wear (too much makeup and you look like a clown, too little and you look tired or sick), and you have a typical day interacting with the public. That’s the joy of being a woman in the corporate workplace; everything is waiting for public comment.
So go ahead and try to be demure or ungrateful. The next micro trend will be here before you know it.
