Palestinian health officials say at least 11 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied northern West Bank.
Five people were reportedly killed in air strikes in the Farah refugee camp, and six were killed in drone strikes and armed clashes in Jenin.
Israeli security forces said they were conducting “anti-terrorist operations against terrorist activities” in Jenin and Tulkarem.
In what appears to be a major Israeli operation, at least four Palestinian cities were targeted simultaneously – Jenin, Tulkarem, Nablus and Tubas.
This is believed to be the first time since the Second Intifada, a major Palestinian uprising from 2000 to 2005, that several Palestinian cities have been targeted simultaneously.
Palestinian reports said the main road to Jenin had been closed due to armed clashes in the city’s refugee camp.
The Israeli airstrikes at dawn were said to have targeted a vehicle in a nearby village.
Israeli troops are said to have entered a hospital in Jenin and sealed off two hospitals in Tulkarem.
According to reports, Israel’s military attack on Nablus mainly targeted two refugee camps there.
In the Farah camp near Tubas, medics said ambulances were working to treat the injured after an Israeli drone attack.
The Israeli military did not reveal many details, but said in a statement that the IDF, Shin Bet and Israel Border Police forces “are currently conducting counter-terrorism operations in Jenan and Tulkarem to stop terrorist activities.”
