Donald Trump seems to think abortion won’t hurt the election, as his running mate finalists are Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, J.D. Vance and Doug Burgum.
Don’t miss Sarah Jones’ article on Kristi Noem, “Predatory Is the Top of the Daily News.”
Bloomberg reports:
The spectacle comes as Trump zeroes in on several potential running mates: Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.
Trump is saddled with legal woes. His running mate could become a key surrogate on the campaign trail, helping broaden his appeal to independents, women and minority voters while also helping him attract wealthy donors as he trails President Joe Biden by nearly $100 million Dollar.
If Trump chooses any of these people, they won’t help him win over independent voters, women or minority voters. Tim Scott has been the meanest in public about the position, but it’s consistent with Trump’s character to stay in his comfort zone and choose a white man.
All of Trump’s potential running mate choices are deeply anti-reproductive freedoms. Three of the four are familiar faces on the national political stage, with Burgum being the only unknown, but that’s exactly what Trump wants. The former president wanted a running mate who had no chance of gaining more public attention than he did or surpassing him.
Choosing an anti-abortion figure as his running mate would be a strategic mistake of epic proportions for Trump, as reproductive rights will be a prominent issue in the campaign.
Instead of running with a new face, Trump will run with a stale sycophant and in the process ensure that he is hurt by the gender gap in the November polls.
