Israeli officials said three people were killed in an attack on the border between Jordan and the occupied West Bank.
Three Israeli civilians were killed in a shooting at the Allenby Bridge crossing, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
The IDF said the attackers approached the area in a truck from the Jordanian side, got out and opened fire.
Security forces “neutralized” the gunman and the Israel Defense Forces were inspecting the truck for signs of explosives, a statement said.
According to Israeli media reports, medical staff said that the three victims were all men in their 50s.
Jordan said it had closed its side of the border and was investigating the incident, which occurred in an Israeli-controlled area where Jordanian vehicles were unloading goods into the West Bank.
Also known as King Hussein Bridge, the crossing is located approximately midway between Amman and Jerusalem and is the only official crossing between the West Bank and Jordan.
It is also the only point of entry into the West Bank that does not go through Israel.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said more than 600 Palestinians have been killed in a surge in violence in the West Bank since Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 and the subsequent war in Gaza.
Last week, Israeli troops withdrew after nine days of large-scale operations in the city of Jenin and its refugee camps. The area is a stronghold of militants and has a civilian population of about 60,000.
Israel says it is working to prevent deadly Palestinian attacks on Israelis in the West Bank and inside Israel and to take action against terrorism.
