If you could stop blushing or feeling uncomfortable warmth by setting an app or wearing a thermostat that looks like a watch, would you?
Embr Labs thinks so too, so they’re selling a device called the Embr Wave. While the Wave debuted a few years ago, and the concept for the idea can be traced back to a product called Wristify, the current Embr Wave 2 is being circulated in some media outlets as a potential solution for those with temperature and sleep issues. Answer. The Embr Wave is an invisible thermostat that fits around your wrist and provides a little relief at the touch of a button to heat sleepers, hot flash sufferers, and anyone bothered by sudden temperature changes (hot or cold). Application settings.
how it works
The Embr Wave looks like a watch, but instead of its rounded surface being on the outside of your wrist, it’s on the inside, where your skin is particularly sensitive to temperature. It comes in rose gold or black, and it doesn’t display the time or pull any health metrics like other wearables.
Here’s how the technology inside works: A battery-powered thermoelectric heat pump creates a cooling sensation by moving heat away from your wrist. If you’re using it to warm up, it works by transferring heat to your wrist. Yes, it can do both, as there’s a paired app that lets you customize it. You can adjust the intensity and duration of the sensation, from 5 minutes of relief (when you feel a hot flash coming) to 9 hours (roughly for hot sleepers). The idea is to trigger a reaction starting at your wrist, which will (hopefully) change how hot or cold you feel.
Future Embr Wave models may be even more customizable. The company announced late last year that it was working with the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Institute for Applied Life Sciences to develop a predictive algorithm that could prevent hot flashes before they happen, hopefully before people register them. The company says this new predictive sensor will be included in future third-generation models.
Embr Labs says its product is as safe as holding a cup of hot coffee or dipping your feet in cold water. Embr also says it won’t change your body’s core temperature.
While this may be a good wearable device for those who feel like they’re getting colder or hotter, health conditions can affect how hot or cold you feel. If you feel chronically cold or unusually hot, it’s a good idea to see your doctor to find out the underlying problem and ask their opinion on whether acupoint-related temperature relief on your wrist is worth trying.
How much does it cost and how to order
The Embr Wave is priced at $299, but is currently on sale for $259. If you don’t like it, you can return it within 60 days and get a refund.
Embr also offers a $20 per month plan that includes the price of the Wave device. The company says it’s a pay-as-you-go option and you can return your device at any time, but you won’t be able to get your money back for the months you’ve already paid for it and used it.
