Kyren Wilson is just three frames away from reaching a second World Snooker Championship final as he leads David Gilbert 14-10 in his third game at the Crucible .
Wilson, the 12th seed, was beaten 18-8 by Ronnie O’Sullivan in the 2020 final on Friday after the pair opened the match 8-8 on Friday, winning six of eight games, including Including winning five games in a row from 9-5.
Gilbert, also a semi-finalist in 2019, ended the slump with a century in the final innings of the night – his fourth ton of the tournament – but Wilson remains the favorite to win the 17-match series , the game will end at 2.30pm.
Wilson, the only remaining seed among the three other qualifiers, led 9-8 with a break of 85, before Gilbert tied the score with a half-century.
However, the game was one-way after that, with Wilson leading three games with breaks of 93, 51 and 88 before extending his advantage to five.
Gilbert looked ready to counter Wilson’s 51st break in the 20th at 10-10, but missed a final yellow card in the 43rd, while he also missed a brown ball and fell four behind in the 22nd bureau.
Wilson also won the next frame after hitting a brilliant long red, but Gilbert won the final frame in style, going on to hit his 10th century of the tournament after hitting a long-on shot.
In the other semi-final, 2015 champion Stuart Bingham and qualifier Jak Jones eliminated O’Sullivan and Judd True in the quarter-finals respectively Judd Trump, with the game tied at 8-8 before play resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The finals are on Sunday and Monday.
