E-International Relations invites PhD/PhD students (at any stage) and early career academics (within 5 years of submission of PhD) to prepare articles outlining novel or underappreciated ideas that contribute to a better understanding of International Relations. The prize welcomes articles on the broadest range of topics, as long as they link the topic to a global or regional issue – and ideally aim to spark debate and contribute to real-world outcomes. We welcome empirical, political, historical, legal and diplomatic approaches, as well as articles that discuss theoretical and disciplinary issues in an accessible way. Since the aim of the award is to communicate new ideas to the widest possible audience, entrants must avoid writing in an abstract or overly technical manner. Papers must be concise and designed to appeal to any informed reader—including laypeople. The criteria we have set out below will help entrants make their written application for the award in an appropriate manner.
This year’s prize is an article on our website and a book worth £1,000
Shortlisted papers will be editorially edited and published in E-International Relations and promoted on all our social media channels to enable the ideas expressed to reach our audience of over 3 million readers. From the shortlisted candidates, one winner will be awarded a book voucher worth £1,000, shared among sponsors Edinburgh University Press, Polity, Sage, Bloomsbury and Routledge. The winner will also have 3 months to access Sage’s online learning resources.
