Dr. Vuletic chats with Kieran (@kieranjomeara) and Victoria (@vic_hhberg) about the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, the important socio-political geography surrounding the contest, how the contest itself has become a site of international political competition and more – all in preparation for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest taking place on Saturday the 11thth May 2024 in Malmö, Sweden.
Dean Vuletic (University of Luxembourg) is the world’s leading academic authority on the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. He was also a lecturer in the world’s first university course on Eurovision, which he began teaching at New York University and has since taught at the University of Vienna and Charles University in Prague. Known as “Professor of the Song Contest”, Dean is a well-known commentator on the Eurovision Song Contest in the international media. His reviews, interviews and columns have appeared in many media outlets. He is the author of Postwar Europe and the Eurovision Song Contest (Bloomsbury, 2019), Eurovision Song Contest: Una Storia Europea (Minimal Fax, 2022), and author of The Eurovision Song Contest as a Cultural Phenomenon: From the Music Hall to the Academic Hall (Routledge, 2022).
