Jeff Duncan, the former lieutenant governor of Georgia, said he disagreed with Biden on policy but voted for the president because he was decent.

In an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan suggested Republicans vote for a Republican Congress and a Democratic president to provide checks and balances on the government. Duncan also pointed out that polls show that Trump is likely to win the election.
The former lieutenant governor made a strong moral argument for why Republicans should vote for Joe Biden:
Healing for the Republican Party cannot begin with a Trump presidency (and that’s not counting the untold damage our country will likely face). An upcoming Time magazine cover story paints in stark terms “the profile of an imperial president who would reshape America and its role in the world.”
Unlike Trump, I have been a lifelong Republican. This November I will be voting for a decent man who disagrees with the policies of a criminal defendant who has no moral compass.
Duncan is right. The Republican Party will never recover unless it kicks Trump to the curb and rediscovers its conservative, pro-American roots from the cult of personality.
Democrats may disagree with much of what Duncan said, but his vote for Biden shows there are more important things than partisan politics. Protecting American democracy requires many people who may disagree on policy to come together and save the country by electing a decent person who can uphold the country’s values and political institutions.
After dealing with Trump, we can go back to arguing, but the main question in the 2024 election is whether we will vote for a man of integrity or a potential felon who dreams of becoming a dictator.
