Ohio is searching for a suspect who killed a veteran who had been with the Euclid Police Department for less than a year during an ambush Saturday night.
Euclid police officer Jacob Derbin, 23, was ambushed and killed by a gunman while responding to a disturbance call at a home just before 10 p.m. Saturday, WJW reported.
Durbin was taken to a local hospital, but died from his injuries, WJW reported.
Euclid police identified the suspect as Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, 24.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting the Euclid Police Department in locating Vaughn, who is described as approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 215 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Police believe Vaughn, a convicted felon wanted for violating the conditions of his community supervision, fled the scene after the fatal shooting.
On Sunday night, WJW reported that the manhunt for Vaughn had ended after he was found dead inside a residence.
Police told WJW he was heavily armed and it’s unclear how he died, but the investigation is ongoing.
Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer told WJW that Durbin was an “incredible” person and that the entire department was “devastated.”
“He was an amazing man. A great heart. Had an incredible smile. The world would be a better place with him in it,” Meyer said.

Durbin had been a police officer with the department for the past 10 months, according to Officer Don’s memorial page.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost issued a statement and vowed to ensure justice is served.
“The Promise of Protection is signed with the blood of our officers. The person who ambushed Officer Durbin will be found and met with full justice,” Yost wrote in a statement on the X website.
Yost continued his duties by offering his condolences to Durbin’s family.
“It is a cruel irony that a mother lost her son on Mother’s Day, and that this murder occurred just as we were preparing to honor our fallen during Police Memorial Week. I am deeply saddened by this injustice. The family is outraged by the actions of Durbin, who was in his first year with the department.” — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine also expressed his condolences to the Euclid community.
“Fran and I extend our deepest condolences to the family of Euclid Police Officer Jacob Durbin and his brothers and sisters in the @Euclid_PD. His bravery and dedication to the Euclid community will not be forgotten, ” Devin wrote in a post on X.

DeWine announced that in honor of Officer Durbin’s life and service, flags on all public buildings in Cuyahoga County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Fernleaf Center and the Rhodes State Office Building will be flown at half-staff on Sunday. Durbin is engaged to Liv Ubke. According to the wedding page on The Knot, the couple will be getting married on July 27 in Governor, Ohio.
