A scientist and senior adviser to Anthony Fauci used his personal email to hide evidence related to the origins of COVID-19, a Republican-led congressional committee said.
Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, chairman of the Special Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, sent a letter Ask the National Institute for Emerging Infectious Diseases for more information about these communications.
“The ad hoc subcommittee is now aware that the Doctor may make further attempts. [David] Morens undermines public transparency,” the letter said. “Specifically, the Special Subcommittee has been informed of alleged communications between Dr. Morens and you regarding the EcoHealth Alliance.
“These communications include emails from Dr. [David] Morens’ personal Gmail account belongs to you and Dr. Peter Daszak of EcoHealth,” the letter added.
Critics say using a personal email account allowed Morens to avoid official records requests for his emails.
At least some of the emails forwarded by the whistleblower were with Dr. Peter Daszak, the leader of EcoHealth, a controversial research organization accused of being involved in the creation of COVID-19.
The federal government has rejected claims EcoHealth, which is partly funded by taxpayers, played a role in the origins of coronavirus.
EcoHealth is a U.S. nonprofit research company that uses taxpayer-funded grants to conduct coronavirus research.
Federal records show EcoHealth was conducting coronavirus research involving bats in China when the outbreak began.
Just like the previous central square reportThe federal grant database reports that the group has received millions in taxpayer funds from the federal government over the past decade to study coronaviruses that originate in animals and can, in some cases, be transmitted to humans.
A hotly debated part of the investigation is whether the EcoHealth Alliance research was involved in making the coronavirus more dangerous to humans.
As lawmakers delved into the issue, they asked more questions.
“In today’s letter to Dr. Keusch and Boston University, Chairman Wenstrup requested the production of all documents and communications related to the communications of Dr. Morens, Dr. Daszak, and other individuals and entities with knowledge and understanding of the origins of COVID-19. Materials,” Wenstrup Stroup’s office said. “This letter continues our investigation into possible withholding of information about the origins of COVID-19 by U.S. public health authorities.”
After initial reports of the emails, EcoHealth issued a statement refuting many of the claims and released in the news what it said were the original emails in question. release.
“These reports do not show the full text of the emails in question, but claim they are part of a cover-up or represent inappropriate communications,” the organization said in a statement. “Contrary to news reports, they clearly demonstrate that Ecology The Health Alliance is communicating appropriately with senior NIH staff or those who have worked at the NIH to try to figure out ways to reinstate the grant that had been unexpectedly and arbitrarily terminated and then suspended. The NIH subsequently reinstated the grant. , EcoHealth Alliance is currently conducting critical scientific research under this grant to prevent future pandemics.
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has been particularly outspoken on the issue, saying more than a dozen federal agencies knew federally funded research was being conducted in China to make it more dangerous.
“Newly obtained documents once again confirm that Fauci lied about the new coronavirus. Fauci’s NIH laboratory worked with Wuhan to develop a proposal to engineer a highly transmissible coronavirus in 2018,” Paul said at for Twitter) wrote. “But he’s not alone, 15 government agencies knew about it and said nothing. Americans deserve answers.
