Thriving depends on more than just strong sales and negotiation skills. It does take a village. In all industries, there is some work behind the scenes, but most of the magic happens behind the scenes. Trying to grow your business in a challenging market means your village is more important than ever.
As someone who has been in the real estate industry for over thirty years, I have learned that building the right team is critical to continued success and growth. Here are my top three ingredients for building a solid and successful team that drives positive results and growth.
Leadership: It starts and ends with you
As a leader, your first goal is to develop a high-performing team with a growth mindset. Give your team a clear understanding of the company’s vision and goals, and the roles they play in achieving those goals. Communicate these goals regularly and ensure consistency at all levels.
Implement systems to track and measure key performance indicators (KPIs). Regular meetings provide a platform for accountability and support. Provide the necessary resources and structure to enable your team to excel in their respective roles.
take away: Cultivate a culture where team members feel empowered to adapt, innovate and solve problems on their own. Encourage participation in formulating and developing strategies and foster a sense of ownership and investment.
Skill Diversity: Embracing Differences to Create Super Teams
You can’t be everything to everyone, and having a diverse team of subject matter experts can help provide your customers with the service and support they need. A diverse team brings a range of perspectives and experiences, enhancing the ability to effectively meet diverse client needs.
take away: Encourage collaboration among team members with different skills. This fosters strong relationships, learning opportunities, and cross-functional development. Diverse teams are more adaptable and innovative, able to approach challenges from multiple perspectives and drive continuous improvement.
Effective Communication and Relationships: Keys to Success
Paul J. Meyer’s words resonate deeply: “Communication—relationships—is the key to personal and professional success.” Here’s why effective communication is so important: Business, at its core, is about relationships. Effective communication builds trust and respect, laying the foundation for productive partnerships and collaboration.
take away: Clear lines of communication help resolve conflicts constructively and ensure challenges are addressed in a timely and amicable manner.
Good communication can enhance cohesion within the team, work toward common goals, and promote collective success. In today’s business world, it’s crucial to build the right team to sustain strong growth. In my time in real estate, I have seen firsthand how a tight-knit team can truly make magic happen.
Across our teams, we’ve seen sales rise, more deals closed, and more salespeople onboarded, proving that this approach to team building works. By giving everyone on your team a sense of purpose, embracing diverse talents, and ensuring everyone is on the same page, your business can succeed.
In the end, the key is to have a team that supports each other and gives their all.
