ChatGPT, OpenAI’s blockbuster generative artificial intelligence application, recently received a major upgrade with the launch of the new GPT-4o model launched as part of OpenAI’s “Spring Update” event. GPT-4o is a multi-modal model that is said to be able to use logic not only when generating text, but also in audio input and output and receiving live video – all in real time. While this launch isn’t a search engine as was rumored in the weeks leading up to launch, the GPT-4o-powered voice assistant mode demonstrated during the spring update is nothing to scoff at.
When will OpenAI’s GPT-4o be available for trial?

The exciting news for ChatGPT users is that the GPT-4o model is available to everyone, including free users – at least for generating text. To try to access GPT-4o, simply log in to your ChatGPT account through a web browser. In the upper left corner, check the drop-down menu for the GPT-4o option, labeled OpenAI’s “latest and most advanced models.”
Mix and match speed of light
OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever is leaving the company. But what did he see?
Currently, the rollout of browser versions as well as desktop and mobile apps is progressing slowly. Users may not see GPT-4o on iOS or Android yet, while the new Mac desktop app is still being released. OpenAI plans to make the desktop app more widely available in the coming weeks, while a Windows version is expected to launch later this year.
While GPT-4o’s voice and vision features seen in the personal assistant mode demo are not yet widely available, developers can access these features through APIs. However, while OpenAI plans to release the voice feature to ChatGPT Plus subscribers soon, there’s no word yet on when or if this jaw-dropping assistant mode will be available for free.
