Pressing play on a Conner O’Malley video is a disorienting experience.
Could it be a continuation of a previous character or universe?May be another installation truth hunter Host Mark Seevers, who O’Malley created for the 2016 election, would have been if Alex Jones had been locked in a basement in Wisconsin for two years, living on nothing but hot dogs and stale Living bread, will he be like Alex Jones? certainly. Is this another video in which O’Malley hosts a late-night show and cruises the streets of New York City on a bicycle while having a blood feud with Greg Kinnear? certainly.
But the film could also be a one-off highlight, like “Endorphin Port,” a perfectly weird satire on technology’s strange obsession with VR.
Conner O’Malley is the internet’s unlikely oracle. And the craziest comedians.
So when I saw O’Malley launch a stand-up special on his YouTube channel (an increasingly common move in comics), I didn’t know what to expect. This is far from your average comedy special.
If you’re unfamiliar with the background and knowledge of O’Malley’s work, I’ve covered it in Mashable in the past. Overall, his work is interested in the absurdity of the modern world. He often makes tech-centric comedies. But rather than caricaturing the corporations or billionaires at their helm, he usually paints a picture of a crazed everyman utterly beguiled by the promises of technocrats. These characters often intersect with the weird right-wing sphere that exists online, people who serve in the military, eat too much meat, and view capitalism as some kind of religion.
“Imagine Joe Rogan has no money,” O’Malley’s character says in his latest, a surprising moment of clarity in the collective’s work.
Popular stories that can be mixed and matched
Conner O’Malley is the internet’s unlikely oracle. And the craziest comedians.
In a traditional sense, Standing solution Even though it was filmed in front of a live audience in Brooklyn, it wasn’t considered a stand-up special. O’Malley plays a character named Richard Eagleton, who demonstrates a 5G-powered artificial intelligence avatar he created for stand-up comedy. If this sounds boring, I promise it’s not.
I can’t begin to explain the approach this film took.Included are condolences for the Toyota Rav-4, background information on Des Plaines, Illinois, and Very About McDonald’s. There are some of the grossest images imaginable, and there’s a strange, somewhat touching backstory that explains why Eagleton began his quest for artificial intelligence. This unhinged man on stage somehow naturally generates moments of cultural criticism.
Over the course of the hour, O’Malley delivers a gonzo stand-up performance, and at times you feel like you’re actually watching a mini-AI evangelist giving a real investor pitch. And, as someone who writes about the internet and technology, there are times when things sound interesting Too much For example, a tech giant gave a two-hour speech promising how much benefit artificial intelligence would bring to everyone.
O’Malley’s character perfectly reveals what his AI technology will ultimately be able to do – effectively force-feed America’s AI politicians – and what it will do, namely help build prisons. Yes, again I promise this special is a lot of fun. It’s also probably the rudest you’ve ever seen.
Anyway, enough is enough for me. I’ll embed special content at the bottom of this post. But if you’ve seen all the artificial intelligence headlines lately and are feeling a little skeptical, this special is for you.
There was one perfect little moment that totally sold me. O’Malley’s character is talking to a crowd, asking them to guess questions about the artificial intelligence he has created. “No one wants it,” one spectator shouted.
O’Malley hasn’t shed his role as evangelist. “Well, you have a very negative attitude,” he replied. He then immediately went on to praise two of Croatia’s leading vaping artists. It’s all ridiculous and exactly like the world we live in.
