This is a great choice for the web. Both Tapper and Bash have proven themselves capable of dealing with Trump’s potential chaos, and they won’t let any candidate or situation get out of control. Although Republicans would make different claims, Tapper and Bash conducted numerous interviews with Republicans and Democrats alike, and they handled them in a fair manner.
If Trump has a bad night, or if Tapper and Bash enforce debate rules, expect Republicans to accuse the moderators of bias. After Kaitlin Collins allowed Trump to go off on her during a CNN town hall, the network did the smart thing not to repeat the same mistake.
CNN does have a talented group of anchors, such as Jim Acosta, who can also contribute to debate coverage.
From the perspective of both campaigns, the reasons why they accepted CNN’s debate invitation are obvious. If Fox News is seen as right-wing and MSNBC is seen as left-wing, CNN is the middle ground where Biden and Trump can meet.
Tapper and Bash are good choices to host, and their choices should give viewers hope that the night won’t be an insult to their intelligence and a waste of time.
