Google will soon provide access to Gemini AI to schools — specifically to educators and students over the age of 18 — and promises not to use their data for AI model training or share it with anyone.
Google will provide additional Gemini data privacy protection in Workspace for Education accounts at no additional cost. However, it does mean relying on the older Gemini 1.0 Pro model rather than newer, newer models like the Gemini 1.5 Pro or Flash, which are designed to provide more accurate answers.
Gemini for Google Workspace will launch on May 23 and will provide organizations with two software packages. The first is the lower-cost Gemini Education, which has monthly usage limits, and the second is Education Premium, which opens full access to Workspace AI tools and has additional features such as AI notes/summaries for Google Meet and data loss prevention.
Chromebooks, a best-seller in education, are also getting new accessibility features to help people who are blind or have low vision. In the coming months, when you use it with Select to Speak, the screen magnifier on your Chromebook will be able to follow what you read aloud. Additionally, you can increase the cursor size and turn off the flashing text indicator.
