Farke praises the “clinical” aspect but won’t get carried away
leeds boss Daniel Wake Sky Sports Football: “When I go back home and watch the game on the couch, I enjoy it! During the game I just focus on making the right decisions. But the team was very good and was more brutal and clinical in front of the goal during the game.
“In the last few seasons I’ve been promoted twice in this league. Now I’m in the play-off final.
“If someone had told us we would go to Wembley at the beginning of September, one game away from the Premier League, I would have said no chance. But now we have that chance.”
“Well done to the lads. It was one of the most complete performances of the season against a really good team.
“We started early and they tried everything they could to counter us. But we made sure we kept a clean sheet.
“It wasn’t a perfect night, at times we were a little overexcited with the ball and emotionally because we have a very young team.
“It was a good night for us. But there’s more to do and I’m already focused on the next task.”
“Farke’s words send a message to the players: the work is not done yet”
former leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom sky sports football: “He obviously wants to send a message and get his mentality right for the next game.
“They’re going to have a tough time over the next 10 days. You want to shift focus quickly. He wants next week to be as normal as possible to prepare for the final.
Leeds United advance to final, Elland Road buzzing with excitement
Sky Sports EFL Editor Simon Gulam: “Any fears of a play-off semi-final nightmare, like the one they faced against Derby County five years ago, were quickly dispelled as there was almost 90 minutes of pure excitement at Elland Road.
“Leeds United were on point from the start and rarely let up. Their first half performance was nothing short of rhetorical, beating Norwich City. It was one of their best performances of the season and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Will they now go on to Wembley and go one step further? Their record says not. But history is made to be changed and bad records are made to be broken.”
“If they play like they did on Thursday night at the National Stadium, no one can deal with them.”
leeds They have participated in the EFL play-offs five times before but failed to advance.
Ampadu: We can carry this momentum into the final
leeds defender Ethan Ampadu Sky Sports Football: “Towards the end of the season, there was a lot of talk about the way we played; how we weren’t on top, how we weren’t aggressive, how we weren’t clinical. We always believed that, on our day, when we fired, anything It’s hard for people to fight us.
“When the top four, the top five, the top six are playing like that, they make our defenders’ job a lot easier.
“Sometimes we like to delay the game but once you score early you can calm the nerves and let them get to you a little bit and it gives you more space and we scored a few more goals as a result.
“Whoever we play in the final, it’s going to be a very tough game. It’s a Premier League final and we’re delighted we’re there. To put in a performance like this, I think we can give It brings motivation and confidence.
“Against the Derby County lads [in 2019] When it doesn’t work out, we tell the atmosphere and the crowd. Today they are second to none. We love their support.
“We’ll probably enjoy it for the next few days and then get ready for the big stuff.”
Scorers: Gruev and Root
Ilya Gruyev Sky Sports Football: “My goal was early in the game and I knew the goalkeeper was guessing so I tried to take a shot and it went in! It was my first goal for Leeds United. To score in such an important game. The ball is so good.
“Everyone can hear the atmosphere and what’s going on and we’re really looking forward to going to Wembley.”
George Rattle Sky Sports Football: “It’s incredible. Today we arrived at Wembley. We played a very good game, we were very focused. I’m happy that everyone is happy. There’s still one game left, we’ll see!”
“We played well. We were mature and it was a very good performance from the team.”
“The atmosphere energizes the players”
Joby McAnuff Sky Sports Football: “It’s been a while since they sang ‘I Predict a Riot’ here! I went back to the Leicester game and the atmosphere was great but I have to say, from the moment we walked into the stadium , we talked about the crowd and what role they could play – and they did.
“It energized the players and they embraced it and performed brilliantly. We say results are the most important thing but I think it was really important to see the level of performance at Leeds.”
“That hasn’t been the case in recent weeks but they look like they’re getting into the groove they were in when they had that brilliant win. They’re doing really, really well.”
