The film industry has gotten off to a great start this year, but 2025 promises to be even brighter and, in many ways, even more exciting.Following last year’s huge success Oppenheimer and these years Dune: Part 2IMAX has just revealed 14 films for 2025 that will not only be released on IMAX, but also in theaters in 2025. Filming is being done specifically for the format.

Of course, since these movies are still far away, release dates may change, and there may be more movies using IMAX cameras in the coming months. (Also, why not Avatar 3 On this list? Has Cameron never used an IMAX camera?Gareth Edwards and jurassic world?
Now, for the true movie fans out there, you all have a question right now. Since all of these movies are “shot in IMAX,” will they be released in the regular, larger 1.9:1 IMAX format? Or will either of them be full-frame, Christopher Nolan/Denis Villeneuve 1.43:1 IMAX? io9 contacted IMAX for clarification and was told that since most of the movies are still in production, they can’t confirm what each movie is being used for or what format each movie will be released in.
But anyway, let’s take a guess.
Since Marvel movies never hit 1.43, you can check all of these off your list. Same goes for another Disney movie, create. Coogler/Jordan is rumored to be a costume vampire movie, which sounds amazing, but maybe not as amazing as “1.43 IMAX.” Huagu StreetRumor has it it’s about dinosaurs, and David Robert Mitchell is an exciting filmmaker, but I still think “no.” Mission: Impossible 8 This is a real possibility as this format is already used in the franchise and it’s rumored to be the end of the saga, so it would be a nice boost.I doubt How to train your dragon Yes, because this is a family movie, but, you never know. The Joseph Kosinski-Brad Pitt Formula 1 film, with a rumored budget of $300 million, feels like the most obvious film to use the 1.43 aspect ratio, closely followed by the James Gunn film Superman. If true, this would set an exciting precedent for the start of the DC Universe. mercy is an Amazon movie, so, probably not that, and then there’s bride!, which we’re certainly excited about, but seems more personal than epic. But again, this is all just speculation.
Regardless, even if none of the films are fully Nolan-esque, shooting in IMAX alone does allow for a significant increase in screen size, not to mention incredible sound. It’s hands down my favorite of all the premium formats and one of the studio’s most profitable.
