Singer Sean Kingston has been arrested in California, hours after police raided his Florida mansion during which his mother was also arrested.
Kingston was accused in February by a company of not paying in full for a large television and sound system.
He was detained at Fort Irwin in Southern California on fraud and theft charges, according to Florida police.
Kingston said in an earlier social media post that his attorneys were “working on everything.”
An earlier raid by Florida police targeted a home near Fort Lauderdale where the singer, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, lived in court documents in February. .
US media – including BBC partner CBS News – reported that the woman arrested was Mr Kingston’s mother.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the raid to the BBC and said an arrest and search warrant had been issued for the property.
“The investigation revealed that on February 16, 1963, an adult female, Janice Turner, was taken into custody on multiple charges of fraud and theft.
“This investigation is actively ongoing.”
Police were then reportedly seen taking items from the house. It was unclear whether the arrests were related to the company’s allegations.
US media quoted police as saying Mr Kingston was arrested hours later in Southern California without incident. The BBC has reached out to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for further comment.
Mr Kingston and his mother, known as Mama Kingston on Instagram, were also asked to respond.
Before his arrest, Mr Kingston appeared to address the developments on his Instagram account.
“I’m fine, my mother is fine,” the singer said in response to reports that the arrested woman was his mother.
“My lawyers are handling everything as we speak,” he added.
Lawyers representing the pair acknowledged the charges, telling The Associated Press: “We look forward to resolving these matters in court and are confident of a successful resolution.”
In court documents seen by the BBC, Ver Ver Entertainment claimed that Mr Kingston contacted the company through social media in September 2023 to purchase a “232-inch giant TV and powerful sound system”.
The company claimed that Mr Kingston “induced” the business to install the products with “the smallest possible down payment” by making “numerous false statements”, including suggesting that he would work with Justin Bieber to create a promotional video for the company.
After the installation was completed, the company said Mr Kingston failed to pay the remaining balance and sued him for breach of contract and fraud.
An attorney representing Ver Ver Entertainment told Miami’s Local 10 News the company hopes to retrieve it from the house following a police raid.
“We knew our property was in the house so once the raid happened we had a team of people there to reassemble it and take it back to its rightful owner.”
Mr. Kingston, 34, is known for hits such as “Beautiful Girls,” “Fire Burning” and “Eenie Meenie,” a collaboration with Justin Bieber.
