Special counsel Jack Smith has asked that Trump be barred from commenting on law enforcement officials in the classified documents case.

According to the Washington Post, Smith wrote in a filing to Judge Erin Cannon:
In new court documents, Smith asked Cannon to “make it clear [Trump] “You must not make statements that pose a substantial, imminent and foreseeable danger to law enforcement officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case,” adding that due to “a number of deliberately false and inflammatory statements that have recently emerged, it is necessary to issue a warning to the court.” Trump created a distortion of how the FBI planned and executed the Mar-a-Lago search warrant.
…
“Restrictions prohibiting similar speech in the future do not restrict lawful speech,” the special counsel wrote. “Accordingly, Trump’s conditions of release should be modified to prohibit similar communications in the future.”
Instead of asking for a gag order, Smith modified Trump’s conditions of release to prohibit him from making false statements to law enforcement officers.
Trump falsely claimed Biden authorized the use of deadly force against him in the Mar-a-Lago raid and sought to raise funds from it.
The truth is that the search was orchestrated without Trump present to avoid any confusion or confrontation with Secret Service agents. The goal was to search the property to recover stolen government property that Trump refused to return.
The goal was never to harm the former president or anyone else.
Since the request was made to Trump’s favorite judge, it’s no surprise that Smith’s request was denied.
Trump failed to motivate and interest his supporters in the legal case, so he resorted to false claims of an assassination attempt. Jack Smith is right. Trump is targeting law enforcement and lives will be at risk if he is not stopped.
