T-Mobile has completed its acquisition of Mint Mobile, the carrier partially owned by Ryan Reynolds. T-Mobile said in an update on Wednesday that Mint Mobile will continue to offer its $15/month/5GB data plan (requires paying three months in advance), along with some of the perks T-Mobile is now offering, as well as ” over the next few months.
The acquisition also includes Mint Mobile parent Ka’ena Corporation and two other companies it owns: prepaid brand Ultra Mobile and wholesale wireless provider Plum. As part of the merger, both Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile customers will receive T-Mobile’s scam call screening service.
In addition, Mint and Ultra customers will receive free Canadian roaming, which includes unlimited calls and texts and 3GB of data. Ultra customers will also receive enhanced data roaming options while in Mexico.
T-Mobile announced plans to acquire Mint Mobile for up to $1.35 billion last March, and the FCC finally approved the deal last month. Mint founders David Glickman and Rizwan Kassim will join the T-Mobile team to help lead the brand, while Reynolds will continue to serve as a Mint ambassador. The deal gave T-Mobile a chance to get back into the prepaid phone market, an opportunity it lost when it sold Boost Mobile.
